Welcome to Poetic License monthly open mic!
Poetic License head

    Started in June 2019 at the Austin Texas Recycled Reads bookstore (a bookstore affiliated with the Austin Public Library), host Janet Kuypers brings poets, musicians, and even short story / micro-prose tellers together on the first Sunday of every month from 3:30 - 5:30 PM for two hours of round-robin readings, where all participants have the opportunity to share 3 poems, or 2 poems and one song, or 2 songs (prose can be used for poetry). Because this open mic space does not have regular highlighted features, everyone is welcome to perform regularly in the G-rated open mic (because this bookstore may have children in the store with adults).
    While Recycled Reads remains closed for open mics due to the Coronavirus/Covid19 outbreak, this open mic continues through Zoom meetings at the same time. Although we can see in Zoom meetings if children are present or not, this open mic should remain G (to PG-13) rated in honor of the open mic’s original bookstore location. (Occasional swearing may be okay, but overuse of swearing as well as blatantly sexual, violent, or homophobic content is off limits and will not be included at Poetic License.)
    Janet Kuypers took over as host in June 2019 for this space, which was originally was run by Louise Gail Richardson (who ran a third-Saturday open mic, originally also at Recycled Reads, which is now also as a Zoom meeting. Janet titled the open mic Poetic License, with web & Facebook event pages for every Zoom meeting get-together.
