Boise Strippers Told to Cover Up

BOISE, Idaho -- City leaders passed an ordinance requiring night club performers to be somewhat covered -- at least in G-strings and pasties.

Tuesday's 4-1 vote came after testimony before about 100 people, including a coalition of dancers, theater backers and Libertarians who berated the ordinance and the City Council that proposed it.

The ordinance is the second passed by the council that bars public nudity.

The first, requiring at least modest halter-tops and short shorts, won approval in August.

But it was struck down in January by U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill, who ruled it was unconstitutional.

The new restrictions reflect the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in an Erie, Pa., case, allowing performers to wear nothing less than G-strings and pasties.

City leaders plan to consider other measures to restrict such businesses.
