RATS VS. HUMAN RIGHTS

May 22, 2001

MARINA DEL REY, CA--The terrorist actions of animal "rights" activists to end the use of animals in research reveal the true nature of their movement, said the executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute.

Eleven cars belonging to Huntingdon Life Sciences employees have been firebombed, a senior manager of the company had a caustic substance thrown into his eyes by a protester, and the company's managing director was seriously beaten by masked assailants--because Huntingdon tests new medical products on rats and mice.

"Medical history has shown that animal testing is absolutely necessary for the development of life-saving drugs and medical procedures, said Dr. Yaron Brook. "Millions of people will die unnecessarily if it is stopped."

Chris De Rose, director of Last Chance for Animals, is opposed to the use of any animal for medical testing, regardless of the benefits to man; he writes: "If the death of one rat cured all diseases, it wouldn't make any difference to me." Michael Fox, vice president of The Humane Society agrees, "The life of an ant and that of my child should be granted equal consideration."

"This is pure man-hatred, and a formula for human extinction, since human survival and progress depend on our ability to run tests on animals to fight disease. The only goal of a terrorist cult that demands the sacrifice of man to animals can be the annihilation of man," said Brook.

Ayn Rand Institute executive director Yaron Brook is available for interviews.
