LIBERTARIANS DECLARE VICTORY FOR GUN RIGHTS IN DUPAGE GUN CONCEALED CARRY CASE
August 9, 2001
ELGIN, IL -- Libertarian Party of Illinois (LPI) State Chair Austin Hough will discuss the DuPage County John Horstman concealed carry victory on the Clark Weber Show, Friday, August 10th at 7:30 AM on WAIT-AM 850 radio out of Crystal Lake, IL. John Horstman, an Elgin computer engineer who had carried a 9mm handgun in a case enclosed in a backpack on the Illinois Prairie Path, was facing a potential felony weapons charge against the 40-year-old, a case that was viewed as a test case of Illinois' laws on carrying and transporting firearms. The radio conversation will be about the Libertarian movement and how we are going to take America back, with examples like this DuPage case.

The Libertarian Party of DuPage County has been organizing on a scale never before seen, and the GOP does not want the Libertarians in the spotlight defending the right to carry. Libertarian Party member John Birch, President of Concealed Carry, Inc. said "We wanted a test case, but we felt it was better that Horstman's hell was ended for his and his family's sake. If you ask ten different Sheriffs in Illinois how to legally transport a gun, you will get ten different answers. This confusion must be rectified."

"The County State's Attorney, Joseph Birkett had decided not to prosecute the case against Horstman because he knew the consequences of publicity the Libertarians would generate to stop the violations of citizens rights. Birkett is also walking the fence on this issue in a ploy to keep gun owners from being angered since he has ambitions to run for Illinois Attorney General, but like many Republicans have done in the past, he will flip-flop after the primary.", said LPI State Chair Hough.

The Libertarian Party is the only political party that unequivocally supports 2nd Amendment rights and supports the right to carry by responsible, law-abiding Americans.

The Libertarian Party of Illinois (LPI) is the Illinois affiliate of the Libertarian Party, America's third largest political party. Its platform advocates free markets, low taxes, social tolerance, personal freedom, and personal responsibility. Over 200 Libertarians hold elective office, more than twice as many as all other third parties combined throughout the United States.
