SINNERS

After a few days,
Incorrigible sinners that we are,
We shall sin again.
And then because of this interlude
We shall sin and sin hard,
Like alcoholics after a dry break
Like smokers after a plane ride across the Pacific,
We shall sin and sin hard.
And when we wake up from the orgy
We shall make confession,
Seek absolution
And then plot the next sin again.
This is habit forming like a narcotic
It is shameful indeed:
But no one has yet explained to me
Why it is sinful to sin.
