There is always an end to everything
& just like anything
that has ever claimed life-
I really was clearly & merely
destined to die.

Senseless, somber & shaking
intoxicated by the intensity
of being alone yet lost in a
peculiar companion’s painkilling care

Ever so
tired of the tourists of the Earth,
surrounding this moth-balled room,
while I’m left behind
wondering
will this become my tomb?

I lay listening
as all their briefcases & purses
jingle & jangle &
drown out
the symphonic insignificance
of my entire exhausted life

All the dead flower dreams,
& that inevitable final gasp
for air
that’s hardly more than
a whimper
yet is always
a hell of a lot
worse off
than the common cough.
