Flight

janine canan

Clouds heaped like egg-whites, pinked by the western sun. Grand canyons of clouds on an endless slate-blue ocean. Golden rose cliffs tumble down to the sea, fade to dusky pink and gray. Airplane passengers, knowing conspirators, smile over expanding azure seas. At the horizon cloud banks veil our approach. Surging white clouds -- racing messengers of light -- rush forward like friends to greet us. And a mysterious swathe of peach-streaked sunlit being passes by. Scorching tower of dazzling light! Impenetrable solid gray is washed in a pink that dilutes and floods the whole sky.

Paradise opens upon an earthly landscape. Under fuchsia sky a wide aqua sea crests with foam, as we fly westward into light through time and life suffused with more and more glory -- in a dream where civilization is imagination, and beauty becomes reality. Oh beauty, gateway to the Goddess realm, heart's finest dream, mauve known now. This fading dream offering diaphanous passage to where? Oh happiness, oh gratitude, dimming unto night. This pale evening in Cloudland, where sleeping hearts yearn on toward the East.

Night. Beauteous arm of Snow Queen rises slowly over the Arctic world. Cool night is coming. Where, where, pale place? Life, what are you? Dim blue vault, clouded seas, rose crest continuing. The Journey -- onward, onward -- space -- clarity -- vast stretches -- obscurity -- nowhere -- enveloping -- impatient -- incertitude -- no answer -- never -- all that was hoped -- gone -- continuing -- coming -- more -- so plain -- and fades. Little dreams of clouds scattered over the sea.

Mother long lost, millennial Mother -- I'm flying home.
