Faceless on the bus

CEE

It was Christmastime
You drifted on youth polite, mild
To back of the packed bus
Filled max, Calcutta-trip Xmas shopping,
Shark backpack harpooned of
Wrapping paper
I sensed some hopeful little guy
Or dense lummox
Had someone who was really trying
What a concept, that was the norm
Fifteen minutes ago
Driver walked back, dutiful helpful
You’d forgotten your pass, he asked a Q
You answered both bright and dull
Someone taught proper, how to robotrix
And acted that way, once grown
What a concept, what year was this?
Got off at my stop, and off you went
Toward grueling Oliver Twisto hols,
It was good seeing “you” again
I need to be reminded, electroshock
For all my kneeling priestly to
The World That Then Was,
That, akin to Vietnam
Our Today
Has a lot of dead young people in it
