EVERY SHADOW’S GRAYNESS IS UNIQUE

To place a burnished gold chair
On squares of red tile produces
A particular shade of gray in the shadow,
To place a silver chair on blond
Varnished raw wood creates a different
Shade of gray in a shadow.
A dark mahogany chair on an off-white rug,
A different gray. A true love is
When there is an intense response
To the particularized gray of her shadow.
