A child he foresaw upcoming heartaches
when the world grew close and burst.

Scavenger he must gather life sustenance
finding his way in the midst of whistling copper.

Speeding his step he could catch a glimpse
of the old school where a gentle mate still sat
waiting for days to bring her to her feet.

Hungry for pleasures beyond a full belly
he grew into the man I once encountered
on a stark country road, unexpected ghost.

He looked upon me and grinned within a sigh
his love caught within the deep wrinkles
time carved into the pain he refused to feel.

In one hand a meager feast for a hopeful friend
in the other, naught but the scent of a rose
he collected with his breast an eternal energy.

Remnant of decades marked in deeper graves
I saw him surrounded with memories upon fragments
objects he knew one day would sustain his kin.

A window fell broken unto the soil of his youth
a jar in cob webs begged to be filled with his heart
a museum he knew well now cried his name.

Enveloped in a shroud like a bright fortress
he made a casket as others write autobiographies.

Kid of all ages he was prepared in his domain
rich with a soul familiar with deepest secrets.
