Aziz and Aniz
greet us from Syria
with peace signs.
Sitting on level stone
wild schrub near their feet.

drifting behind him.

I CAN’T BREATHE
In white
NO
To Racism
in a soft purple

            like the Justice for George Floyd message
            chalked a few doors North of my home
            next to a Stay well message in pink.
            Between permanent algebraic markings
            from the city
            and boxed in hop scotch numerals

on a stone with
with chipped
upper left corner
like the state of Utah
Not a true rectangle
or rounded at the top
like the ten commandments

Dark clouds
above George
and a darker blue
than the heat intense blue
of the afternoon
that fills a hole
in the remains of a wall

where an explosion
formed a jagged figure
like a bent over person.

“Asfixiation”
say Aziz and Aniz
from chemical weapos
or knee on a neck

Children chalking
“Black lives matter”
and Keep hope alive
on sidewalk by their front steps
