Bioluminescence

There are magical moments that resonate from a summer love
that somehow lost its glow. I hope she remembers
that summer too...

Her hand’s warmth created an eye glow
as we walked around the pond.
Each step we took on blacktop
carved an iridescent path.

We filled in our lives from time lost.
For a minute, her head rested on my chest.
My eyes found her stare with a smile
as the street lights glimmered.

I caught a lighting bug,
and felt like a boy
collecting those fireflies
at my grandparents’ house.

As a man, I lit up neon clovers
and watched the bug’s glow shine
like a mini moon on my arm.
Each crawl slowed summer minutes

with an intimate, first-time feeling.
She tried...I felt her breath on my arm.
The words, “I think he likes you”
rippled in the waves of the pond.
