Let’s Talk

An eternal study of motion
the waves ceaselessly roll in.
Their low volume thrum
referred to as “white noise.”
Pierced on occasion
by gull screech, voices,
children’s squeal.
Carried on the wind
to my awaiting ears.

I wonder if the sounds of the beach
occur when I’m not here to hear.
Or is it the same as the tree
falling in the forest? Another
unanswered question.

Let’s all go down to where
the ocean meets the land
get to know one another
again for the first time.

Because people change so often
unlike the waves and the sand.
We can talk quietly even perhaps
answer questions we have
about each other.
While the water spills onto the land.
