Richard K. Williams

Pleasant Mountain’s profile raises green and wooly
just beyond the hayfield, past the low tree line
almost close enough to touch.

The sky awash in blue and white folds
as though some enormous hand has cinched
the drawstring of the heavens tightly
just beyond the mountain’s summit.

A gusting breeze moves the grass in rolling waves.
While Olivia and I stand on the deck behind her house
                            blowing bubbles.

Repeatedly dipping the plastic rings in sudsy solution
then holding them up to the unseen force.
Thus creating the iridescent globes
which float away on the active currents
until they vanish midflight.
Or burst on contact as they attempt
to light upon the Queen Ann’s Lace.

Olivia squeals with delight and the excitement
that only a four year old can muster
over such a simple pleasure.
She cries to me “uncle look!”
Forcing my attention
to watch the fragile orbs she created, majestically sail away.
Simply by waving her magic wand
