On the Road, Too

Yeah, Jack,
I know what you mean,
I know about
3 a.m. road trips,
Tripping,
Surreal landscapes
Sliding by
At melting speed,
Highway stretching out
Before us
Like a panting tongue,
Cartoon-like,
Flapping in the wind,
Music pounding
Through buzzing,
Paper-thumping
Speakers,
Direct wired to beating hearts
Racing toward destiny,
Toward any kind
Of meaningful change,
Or at least something
That approximates
Reality.
Piercing the bubble
Of darkness,
Bursting into hazy
Spider-eyed dawn,
The vapor trails
In our heads
Still spiral us forward
Into a million
Tomorrows.
