I sit at the traffic light,
Lingering past
The appearance of green
Just to watch
The skater boys.
Dressed in baggy shirts
And tight-knit apathy,
They ride the asphalt waves,
Hop a curb,
Around the turn,
Grind the rail
To the concrete below
They flow,
Weaving and leaning
With studious nonchalance,
Graceful beyond their
Twelve to fourteen years,
Subcultured from their peers,
And how I long
To leave the car here,
Abandoned by the corner store,
To feel the shifting balance
Of a board
Beneath my feet once more.
