Alaska, leave behind alphabet-
block skyscrapers and choppy seas
of windshields. What I ask you

you forget we knew each other
north, or south, of the border, wake
up one morning in the same body
but with a new mind, wonder who
this is in bed with you but happy
to be there all the same. What I

you believe in reincarnation
or whether you’re more a reinlily
kind of person. What I ask you
is whether you let autofocus
do the grunt work or whether you
insist on every last adjustment.
