Bongo Wilderness

John Raffetto

Does the beating of a bongo
in the wilderness with no one around to hear it
make a sound?
Perhaps-
the tribal ghosts and extinct animals in the old growth forest
persist despite a gamed philosophy,
they hear the drumming.
Humans have a different perception,
what they can’t see or hear is truly vanished
or non-existing behind concrete physics
exploited in a conspiracy until a dawn song of mad turbulence
multiplies in a labyrinth of rank shadows.

So who hears the bongo in the wilderness?
Perhaps no one or everyone in the propagation of memory
or the harsh ferocity of now.
