The staff at home knew before I did.
My husband and I never said servants.
With the crafty ingenuity, particular to them, they never thought to inform me.
That the wild, pulsing pursuit of my husband meant I’d have to rival the ‘other’ in his life.
That ‘she’ has been in our home, for the last six months while I have been tending to Ma.
That our love is failing, and our life of domestic intimacy is about to fold.
That I once companioned will soon be alone.
Yet little do they know that I hold on to an attachment that has grown-up.
One with no jealousy, no fear of loss, no surge of emotion, no aftershocks.
A customary circle of meet, part, then meet again.
Little do they know that it is ‘her’ and ‘his’ life that would be about unfinished business.
About depletions and empty spaces that crave for their own utility.
