we were taught not to judge books by
their covers,
and yet some of you won’t do anything
more than scrape the surface of a person
before you judge them;

i know most are probably terrified of
my depths

yet it doesn’t mean that you can discount
the language of my heart or soul
& the mythology of my bones—

if you don’t like waves then don’t anger
my moons because i will bury you in a hurricane
when provoked,

all my life i was taught to turn the other cheek;
yet i was still ambushed with hate and
criticism that was far from constructive so
i will let all the monsters drown

so tired of seeing them thrive—

if that makes me a villain
so be it,
all the heroes you worship have hurt me
because they’re not
good men.
