It was a horror show.
A sea of people swarmed around the hotel.
The masses were wearing masks,
but not the medical ones
we were all too accustomed to seeing.
We were back in wonderland now,
facing more fantastical fears,
the kind spread through art
rather than air.
Werewolves, vampires,
razor-fingered dream stalkers.
All of them were out
celebrating the catharsis of horror,
howling to release
the years of muted dread
muffled behind fabric and Facebook.
Emerging from the ever-flowing feed of harsh reality,
their eyes quickly adjusted
to the funhouse mirror of horror.
Despite the macabre surroundings,
the horror convention was comforting,
like the light at the end
of a long, dark tunnel.
