I feel like a slave in my own
home. How many times do I sweep
the floor, only to have them scatter
piles with their kicked up feet?
How many times do I ask them to
stop? To help? I clean. I cook. I clean.
I cook. I kiss their owies. I cuddle them
close. I clean. I cook. I clean. I cook.
I am not a mother; I am a slave.

They wonder why I do not eat dinner
with them. They want to know why
I make the meal and then take it into my
room to eat alone. They’re too young
to know. I’m too tired to tell them.

The help doesn’t eat with the house.
