“are you a goth, are you?”
they poked and prodded
in high school as if it were
some dirty word

yes, i am a goth;
with a rainbow heart
i like every color but black
makes me feel most
empowered and fierce

with each swipe of black lipstick
i feel like a goddess—

so praise me in all my divinity
or go back to your churches
and practice your own religion,

but remember i exist and
don’t bash me for my colors;
i have them all although sometimes i
show this in black plummage.
