It is only one room,
but with a spectacular view.
She wants to rob me of the only light
in a life that is teeming with gloom.
I see through its window a child
who had braved so many storms,
who inhaled in that ancient harbor
the fragrance of cubes of wood,
who hailed at rowing boats,
who inherited from forefathers
a deep passion for navy blue,
for wheels, knots, and anchors,
for the ultramarine uniform.

She arrived at our doorsteps,
the quintessence of disinterested maidenhood
and lured the inmates of the household
with a pair of lips that wove
a tapestry of falsehoods.
The pillar of the house floundered
in the quicksand of subtle words,
a mire of conflicting interests
continues to contaminate bonds
that had been forged in childhood.
