and the Chardonnay down the sink
(well, ok, maybe keep the Chard)
and make friends with boredom.

Accept the long days,
become as intimate with them
as your own flesh, as
your wayward spirit dreams.

Find a hobby, write a poem,
follow current events-Ouch!
Water the plants, listen to the birds,
let off steam: Tweet. Do stuff

365 days a year, until
the years become decades and
you and the plants and the birds
are hopefully still here.

You aren’t going anywhere
until you do.
