a man yells at a woman
on the train
and I want to
intervene
but the chains of
#MeToo
keeps me from
being a white
knight
i want to help a
woman with her
packages
but the ghosts
of feminists
warm me
she’ll read into
my gesture
as an “ulterior
motive”
even a compliment
towards a woman
can be taken as a
dagger
rather than a
rose

but my dad always
told me
“if you make a
mistake
make it big, so
you can learn from
it.”

and so like don quixote
i treat a lady as a
lady
planting my rose in
a toxic
world
