I’ve talked myself out of it
        too many nights,
only to be weighed down
        by regret in the morning.
Dreams of a pawn-shop revolver
and a six-dollar bullet
        dance on my brain.
I wonder about the night
        I lose the argument.
Anymore,
I’m no longer sure if it’s an “if”
        so much as a “when.”
Not even bothering with “why.”
Just a matter of reaching that point
where “I’m okay”
        turns to “No more.”
