You lie there in your
private hell-
drowning your pillow but saving
your tears
in an angel bank
for someone who deserves them.
They haven’t broken you
easily (in real life),
but according to their strict fantasy,
you are down for the count.
Yeah, they go right by the book,
stories they tell
to their appointed council of delusion enablers.

But you play along too, because after all,
a warrior must rest. You pretend to be dead.
Death snuggles you. And you smile big
Cause it seems you suddenly have Cheshire cat
wallpaper. You’ve lost a chunk of dignity and
your marbles. Atmosphere is currently all you have
to your name. You’re taking it in. You
will not
forget.

The flames rise as the bed
burns
Although, you feel
nothing.
What is this altered state?

You s l o w l y start to under
stand
this quiet is actually
an opportunity for
tough love acceptance-
To accept the truth about a heart
of stone. You remember ‘The Lottery’
by Shirley Jackson and how it doesn’t
seem fun to be stoned to death.
And how maybe
...just maybe
being ‘chosen’ is overrated (sometimes)
So you take your time explaining
to your core, “hey girl,
it’s nothing personal.”
Stones are just
stones, man. YOU can just step on them.
And then get over it.
But t h e y
stay
right
there.
