i wake and i fall

i fall in the sun,
the sun which is pale
the pale which is broken by twigged tree winter i dreamt
i was a statue destroyed by some bright light
awaiting my death
this ensconced in lovelessness- bring me
some better loss, bring desire
or the night which in its cold
we walked the old town where i once ruminated:
no pause near cemetery
now i can sit on the bridge,
in afternoon liberated. it is doubt that carries the water south,
like a child of grief, shaken all day by the trains
this house goes by them.
not stifled by breath now visible,
comes forth the self beyond self.
