At the waterfront
The fishing boats
Snuggle the pilings
As swells gently rock them
Side to side

It’s Friday night
The wharf side bar
Overflows with patrons
The deck bar is also
At capacity

We sit sipping drinks
Watching other revelers
Celebrate work weeks end
Mingling Among
Excited tourists
Admiring the seascape

The Old Port, Portland Maine
An endless stream of humanity
Nearly as dense as the ocean
They both ebb and flow
They both arrive in waves

But only one will remain
As it has for all time
The other will wane
This occurs every year
When the summer sun
Moves away
