Evening Sky

In twilight’s waning hours
The dappled light
Gently caresses
The branches of the trees
Where the delicate buds have made their first appearances
Like newborns, smiling tentatively at the world
While the intoxicating aroma of champagne
Wafts through the creamy white flowers
That seem to be everywhere
As big as soup bowls
Serving up delights for the spirit
And I drink thirstily
As I pause to listen to the lullaby
Coming from above
Where the tender melodies of the birds’ songs trill through the boughs
Weaving in and out
Amongst the waxen leaves.

The sun hangs tantalizingly seductive
From the edge of the sky
For the grand finale this day
Boldly brushing brilliant strokes of fire
Across the darkening palette
As it slowly disappears into the flames
Before it is the moon’s turn
To display its prowess.

The oncoming blackness is suddenly adorned with thousands of delicate jewels
Dotting the horizon
Worn like a princess
Whose lover gently fastens them onto the velvet of her neck
Ensuring the world knows she is forever bound to him
And with every movement she sparkles
And hypnotizes him
And he knows he is helpless to go anywhere
For he is eternally hers
As she is his
And the night blankets the earth.
