How can you? We haven’t
shared the scent of each
other’s sweat or the taste
of each other’s cooking, the
feel of each other’s nicked
and calloused fingertips.
We weren’t raised in the
same seasons, pollen tides
and overhead migrations.
You know nothing of the
lullabies that sent me to
sleep and the ghost stories
that kept me awake, just
as I know nothing of what
you did with your lost teeth
or how you celebrated your
birthdays. This? This thing
we share? This is not a
community. It’s just an
intersection of categories,
a construct of intention and
engineering, held together
with radiation and wires.
