A bird that is a song that is a spirit
lifting you up, higher and higher
a prouder mother than I ever had.

We hide behind two chairs and wait for her to find us
clasping our hands, hoping she never does
(this isn’t hide and seek)
her hard familiar voice, copper-like, demands this ends today.

One always watches while the other
looks away.
