The fridge hums
The fan whirrs
An invisible sparrow chirps nearby
A single crow flies cawing overhead
A dove preens on your roof
Casting its shadow on the house next door
The sky is perfectly blue
On this quiet Friday morning
Time is suspended among familiar things
The dishes from last night
the plant on the window sill
a glass still full of water
the ashtray still full of smokes
the photos of smiling faces hanging on the walls...
In all this silence you lose yourself
searching for a line
that can express
the thumping of your heart
anxious omen of future things.
