i remember
once upon a time
we were friends,

don’t know when
i fell except i did;

and i never knew how
to tell you because you
saw me like a sister—

you always had
someone else,
and i only wanted you
to be happy;

so silently i held this love
within me—

thought my mind was going to
explode when i discovered i had
fallen in love with you because
all my life i had been taught it was wrong,

but love is love;
and i am not straight as an arrow
tired of staying in the closet—

& all these years later i still love you
even though we haven’t spoken in many moons

but every star and sun and moon of me
combined with every tree and raven and flower
apologize for all the hurt i caused even if
sorry isn’t enough.
