Inconvenience

I don’t believe in afterlife
If mistaken
I know where I’ll go
I’ll try to get a spot
Near a window
To spy into paradise
I want to witness
The righteous Americans
From my generation and the current one
I’d like to hear their attempt at explaining
Their life’s trials and tribulations
Staring into the eyes
Of the people from
Auschwitz and Birkenau
Gross-Rosen and Dachau
Hear them justify
Their suffering, like
Ordering a single malt neat
It’s arriving on the rocks
Their agony each time their
Smartphone dropped a call
Or an app that wouldn’t properly load
Despair over delayed flights,
Lost luggage and long lines at Disney World
Perhaps they would compare tattoos?
One being pointless frivolity
The other certain fatality
I’m sure at some point in eternity
These two groups could arrive
At a mutual understanding
As long as someone explained
To the modern dead that there existed
Real horror, prior to minor inconveniences
