Cue the exhaustion and the fade to black,
damn, all we have is gray to foreclose on him,
just a cloudy effect without the decency
to take on one shape, one resemblance
to something solid back on the ground we know.

Raise the volume up to the available peak,
now close it out and let the silence commence,
his mouth is still open, his throat still red,
if a yell escapes, remove it in editing,
the propaganda of a demise is better on mute

Back to the body, get a couple of squibs,
could somebody please choreograph
this bloodletting? We want it to look real to us,
but no more ketchup, bring on the syrup,
it is sweet to pretend to die for one’s country
