Sensation seeking TV
and click baiting social media
acclaim protestors
rallying on our streets
to the incessant beat of
“No justice, No peace,
Black lives matter!
No justice, No peace,...”
but all the while
an alternative’s coming to you live,
and in full color
that can’t be suppressed
by these addictive outlets,
for this alternative’s being led
by ever more numerous
interracial families
strolling down America’s malls,
by an empathetic black man
stepping aside
for an elderly white guy
inching down a flight of stairs,
by children of varied ethnicity
affably collaborating on an art project,
by a Japanese actor playing Tevye
in still another rendition
of “Fiddler on the roof,”
by ardent lovers
and beauty salon partners,
Susie Shapiro and Sonia Sanchez
planning on adopting a child,
and ultimately, it will be bolstered
by the exit of dated leaders
that persist in observing their multihued nation
through a 60s achromatic lens,
along with detention
of civil rights offenders;
for happily, the world will get along quite nicely
without them.
