there
in that
driving-home-through-drizzle
that safe bubble
that bubble-safe
uninhabited-web-of-radio,
any music is a spider noise
silence
creeping down a back
making sweat and giggle
making smoothness of golf courses
and thick in the neck
the short waxed hair never growing.

a mall passes by
a mall passes by
another
on the six-lane boulevard
big with letters punching red
in night’s soft belly,
asking what a blazing name seems to ask:
tango with me?
buy a flavored coffee?
in the perfumed rest room,
buy one more quiet sigh
and collapse for a time
in a country of satin
that pulls new feathers over
chins slippery with
unintended drool,
pulling cooked plastic bubbling through quasifood:
you have driven too much land to call any of this home.
