keep your weird

my guidance counselor once told me
if i weren’t so weird i wouldn’t be bullied,

and it made me angry enough that i decided
that i was going to lean into my weird and
be myself no matter who i might offend;

decided i would define myself rather than allowing
another person decide who i was—

morticia addams said “what is normal for the
spider is chaos for the fly”,

and i seek to be the chaos to any fly who
seeks to shatter the webs of my dreams
because i am worth knowing and being and
my magic isn’t something i can surrender

just because someone unworthy didn’t understand;

keep your weird because in a world that strives
to strip you of what makes you uniquely you
it may be the one thing that helps you survive.
