don’t subscribe to your theology

it was never enough
no matter how hard i tried

so i stopped trying and criticism
was to be found there, too;
but by then i just didn’t care because
i knew no matter what you’d
never see me for who i truly was—

decided to be me,
cut away everything you taught me
because none of it has ever served
or helped me;

you only taught me i could only rely
on me—

invalidated my feelings, gave me trust issues,
told me that my mother’s worries were valid
but mine were not without even knowing
what exactly was on my mind;

and some people tell me that you’re a good
man but you weren’t always good to me—

so please forgive me if i don’t subscribe to your theology.
