No Rock

Cathy Porter

It’s not like you can help
any of this – the cards fell
into your lap, and have stuck
like Velcro. The sun in the sky
hints at spring – but spring for us
stays winter. If we could dance,
we would. If time could be traced
back to the night we met — and we
knew all of this — I’d still do it all
over again. So, forgive me when I
fall short of patience; when I struggle
to make sure you know I’ll be here
until every card falls to the floor,
and the sun stays summer. As true
as the blues. No rock gonna bust
this window. It’s ain’t pretty, but
looks aren’t everything.
