the pumpkin eviscerated
on my stoop reminds me
of my own evisceration
not by squirrels but
shining steel robots that
clipped out my innards
threading defective viscera
out through the weeping slash
in my distended abdomen

colon shortened polyp removed
cancerous it turns out
they say I am lucky but
I still feel like that
empty pumpkin soft and rotten
flesh spilled out on the bricks
never to be quite whole again
