Through shiny airport terminals,
I have wheeled the loneliness
And brought it to hotel rooms and new cities.
I’ve bought it a drink or two just out of pity.
I can now distinguish thought from feeling,
thought from reality,
But the feeling is real.
I’ve extinguished hope repeatedly
In the forest fire of each deep-rooted expectation.
I know myself too well now.
