i used to be
afraid
of my dark feminine,

i saw her talons
and her fangs and i knew
she could very easily
destroy beautiful things;

at church they taught us anger
led to danger and the destruction
of everything good—

as an adult i have come to realize
my anger was only there to
protect me and show me all the ways
i had been wronged that wasn’t okay,

and now i am friends with my dark feminine
because i have given rose petals too many times to
people who deserved all the scary beasts that whisper
to me in the darkest forests of my heart.
