What Now, My Love

John F McMullen

The Twentith Century
was called
The American Century
as well it should have been

With the Civil War
now well behind it
        Unmatched economic growth
        World War I victory
        World War II victory
        Rise of the Middle Class
        The Arsenal of Democracy
        Founding of the United Nations
        Unifying Europe with NATO
        Leading Other Countries to Democracy
Truly the American Century

Now The Twenty-first Century
and no longer the Amrtican Century
Greatest internal polarization since the Civil War
Greatest income inequality since the Robber Barons
Loss of economic leadership in the world
Greater medical and ecomic safety net for citizens in other countries
Moves toward autocracy, rather than democracy, in the world
Greater chance of military conflict than at the end of the Tewntith Century
What The Fuck Happened??

Maybe it’s just the cycle of the world
Anybody remember
The Sun Never Sets On The British Empire?
