I’m excited about voting,
as I drive to the polls.
Despite the drizzle,
I didn’t mind standing in line
for the guard to let us in.

Already confident of my choice,
a man hands me red and blue
flyers, postcards.
I accept with a smile.

A lady waves me to her computer,
searches for my name.
I wait,
and wait,
and wait.
Growing anxious,
wondering about
my status.

She’s puzzled,
not sure what to say.
Screen swivels.
I brace myself.
