People Person

She looked up at me with a smile
That made her face receptive
Like a tropical sunrise.

I suppose she caught me gazing,
staring perhaps.
Her eyes instantly enslaved my attention
She was after all, beautiful
In that exotic way Asian women are

Upon her laptop keyboard
Her furious fingers flew,
Leaping from Facebook
To YouTube
To MySpace
To instant messages.

“I use my notebook to keep in touch.”
“I love staying close to friends, and
Connecting with new people.”
“I guess I’m just a people person.”
She proclaimed proudly as her fingers
leapt, from PC to cell phone.

When she was finished
This beautiful People Person
Plugged in her MP3 player
(effectively blocking out the sounds of the world)
Then concealing her eyes behind dark lenses
(to avoid unwanted connections)
She ventured out onto the street
Safe within her electronic universe
Where she would not be encumbered
By actual human contact.
