Reaching for the Stars

When I go outside on a clear night, I stare up at the stars.
They shimmer in the shapes imagined for them.
I am in awe as I consider the universe, so vast, unknown.
I wonder about my place in it.
Have I done enough?
Is my life passing insignificantly?

Continuing my stargazing I begin to feel tiny,
a speck within the endless cosmos.
Perhaps I should be doing more,
make greater sacrifice, get more involved.
I decide, I’ll increase my contribution;
after work tomorrow, if I’m not too tired
and there’s nothing good on TV.
