Fearing those days

Begoña Montesinos

She is convulsing on the couch as she screams, and I see myself running towards those chilling sounds, not like mom’s at all, just to feel her motionless, seated there, her beautiful hands trying to grab something in the air.
Where are you at, dear mom? Where did your preciously unique soul go to?
I am beyond scared, unable to really comprehend what is happening to my beloved mom, my best friend ever, my wise angel.
    Mommy, where are you at?
I am terrified at the idea of her leaving us now. Why am I being so selfish?
And the lurking monster is back to mortifying her within, to possess her, unluckily controlling her fragile body and tormented soul.
Mom, can you hear me? Where did you go to?
I wonder why her, why this generous soul, why this beloved being is to suffer beyond comprehension.
I am taking a train to the unwanted angst which is to insidiously wait for my distressed soul right in the corner of the sterile Land of Impotence.
I am to find myself lost in translation now.
    Mom, where are you at?
    Mom!
